Sustainable packaging

Eco-design is at the heart of our thinking. That is why our primary packaging is made from bamboo. It is an ecological raw material thanks to its exceptional growth rate without the need for fertilizers or pesticides. Bamboo only needs 4 to 5 years to reach harvest size, compared to several decades for trees! The bamboo used for our packaging grows naturally in protected forests in China. Instead of using cardboard boxes for our secondary packaging, we chose to eliminate them and replace them with a simple label attached directly to the product. This allows us to reduce waste as much as possible and decrease the weight of our products by 20% compared to conventional brands.

Refillable makeup

Since its creation in 2012, Zao has followed very strict specifications that allow it to be not only an Ecocert-certified organic, natural, and vegan brand, but also the very first refillable makeup brand.

For both ecological and economic reasons, refillable makeup quickly became an obvious choice, providing a concrete response to the challenges of a society facing increasing waste production and a gradual decline in purchasing power.

This innovative approach is based on concrete commitments that translate into both environmental and economic benefits.

- Ecological: By creating a refill system, we choose to act in favor of the environment. Thanks to these packagings, we produce less waste, use less plastic, and consume less energy. Choosing a refill means reducing waste by 32% to 71%.

- Economical: Packaging has a direct impact on product pricing. By offering refillable products, we give you the opportunity to enjoy your makeup at affordable prices. Choosing a refill can save up to 55% compared to the price of a full product.

Refillable makeup is also highly appreciated by customers for its playful aspect. Our refillable packaging makes it easy to switch between colors depending on your mood and desires. Simply keep several refills on hand to unleash your creativity.

The ZAO Eco-box

Always striving to go further in our eco-responsible approach, we have also implemented a collection, recycling, and recovery solution for used refills (sticks, bottles, tubes, and pans). This takes the form of a cardboard collection box: the ZAO ECO-BOX, available at all ZAO retailers and entirely designed by the ZAO brand.

You can bring your used refills to the nearest point of sale and place them in the Eco-box. Once full, the box is sent back to Zao, which commits to sorting, recycling, and recovering its contents.

Through the Zao Eco-box, we reinforce our commitment to being exemplary regarding the quality of our products, from their design to their end of life. Since recycling these materials is possible, we want to guarantee it by offering a collection solution with the certainty that they will be recovered and reused.
